Chopped strand fiberglass mat is commonly used in the fiberglass industry to reinforce materials. It has several advantages, such as affordability and the ability to easily conform to different shapes.
While it may not be as strong as fabrics, it is a great choice for cost-effective and quick build-ups. The mat can be used alone or in combination with fiberglass fabrics or woven roving for larger projects.
It is often used for plywood decking buildup and inserted between fabric layers during the molding process. To completely saturate a 300 gram chopped strand fiberglass mat, approximately 680 grams of resin per square meter is needed.
